Wesley Lanckriet
Founder & Creative Director, Architect
Wesley leads {define}’s conceptual and strategic direction, translating complex societal and environmental challenges into clear architectural frameworks.
Wesley Lanckriet is the founder and creative director of {define}, guiding the studio’s design vision and long-term strategy. He works hybrid across all projects and phases, with a strong focus on conceptual development, spatial clarity, and BIM-driven workflows. His approach blends strategic oversight with an instinct for simplicity, honest material use and spatial future-readiness.
Wesley’s background bridges craft and advanced design thinking: before graduating as an architect, he completed a professional secondary education in building construction, grounding him a hands-on understanding of materials and assembly logic.
As an architect-researcher at VUB Architectural Engineering, Wesley contributed to several pioneering European projects on circular and reversible design — including Buildings as Material Banks (BAMB), where BIM-based material passports and systemic design strategies were developed, the Circular Retrofit Lab, Europe’s first fully circular renovation of student housing using only demountable and reusable building components, the Open Source Building System, a modular and future-proof framework for adaptable dwellings and the circular scenario-based redevelopment of the Mechelen TRAP-site.
With a decade of international experience at SeARCH and UNStudio, Wesley anchors the studio’s research-driven and context-aware attitude. He translates societal and environmental challenges into adaptive spatial frameworks shaped by users, needs, context and time. He ensures that every project is robust, clear and future-ready, embodying the brand values of integrity and partnership.
Outside the studio, he is an active boulderer, bringing the precision, creativity and physical focus of this discipline into his design practice.
